Spiritual Maintenance During Quarantine

In times of turbulence, our spiritual practices can be our strongest aides. Whether you engage in ritual, kitchen magic, meditation, energy work, all of the above or something different entirely, these practices and the tools we use to enhance them are important parts of our physical, mental, and spiritual wellbeing. While stores like ours are proud to be able to offer online shopping, shipping, and curbside pick-up, we also know that there are many people in our communities for whom these aren’t options right now. This week, we wanted to give you some options for materials that will complement your spiritual practices, even if your budget is more constricted than it used to be. All of the following recommendations are for items (mainly herbs and spices) that can be used for ritual purposes, and are either already in your home or are pretty easy to obtain at your local grocery store. These suggestions can’t replace every tool in your toolbelt, but with a little creative work, you can use everyday ingredients for powerful work.

We’re going to start off with the spice cabinet, which will have the majority of your supplies for metaphysical work on this list. While it’s great to be able to get specialty herbs for your work, many of the items that are already in your kitchen, be it fresh herbs in the fridge or window garden, or dried herbs and spices and salts in your pantry you probably already have plenty of ingredients for making different sachets, incenses, ritual baths and plenty more, so let’s dive in!

Magical Ingredients You Probably Already Have:

· Basil – Promotes happiness, peace, and sympathy between people

· Black Pepper – Protection and courage

· Chamomile (if you have 100% chamomile tea, available in most grocery stores for example) – Peace, relaxation, and sleep.

· Cinnamon – money, and psychic awareness

· Citrus – Squeeze the oils from the peels, or boil or burn the peels to release the fragrance into your space. Any citrus, such as lemon, lime, grapefruit, or orange is useful for purifying your space and elevating your mood.

· Ginger – Money drawing, supports healthy sexuality, love, and courage

· Rosemary – Protection, purification, healing, sleep, exorcism, love, and mental powers

· Onion – protection healing, money-drawing, prophetic dreams

· Olive Oil – commonly used as an anointing oil to aid in healing. You may also use olive oil as a base, and infuse it with rosemary, basil, thyme or other herbs for ritual use and anointing.

There are a variety of salts available on the market, and aside from iodized table salt, many of them can be safely used to replace Epsom salts for cleansing baths. Kosher salt, sea salt, or pink Himalayan salt are some good ones to work with if you can’t find Epsom salts or if they just aren’t in the budget at the moment.

Salts aren’t just used for cleansing and ritual baths. Lines of salt placed around doorways and windows offer protection to the home. Similarly, or if this is not an option, you can make a salt jar by writing your intention on a piece of paper, and adding it to a clean glass jar of salt. Screw the top on, visualize power going into your intention and find a safe place for the jar in your home and it brings peace and protection into your space.

Simple Chakra Balancing Meditation

If you're looking for a simple chakra balancing meditation that can help raise or maintain your vibration, remember that this can be as simple or as complex as you want to make it for yourself. A great place to start is by taking a few cleansing breaths, in through the nose and out through the mouth. From there, breathe deeply and comfortably as you visualize white light surrounding each chakra center, with the individual chakras growing brighter and beginning to spin clockwise as they are cleared and rebalanced. If it suits you, feel free to ask your higher self, spirit guides, archangels, or source itself for help in clearing and balancing as well.

Note: This meditation can be done on its own, or can be accompanied by chakra balancing stones such as red jasper, carnelian, citrine, rose quartz, blue lace agate, amethyst, and lapis lazuli if you choose.
